Keeping Sand and Sea Plastic Free: Almyra Joins Tourism Cares

Keeping Cyprus plastic free was the focus on Friday, 25 September 2026, when the Almyra team joined the island-wide Tourism Cares initiative to mark World Tourism Day, working alongside colleagues from Annabelle, Antasia and the Thanos Hotels & Resorts management team.

Small Actions, Shared Shoreline
Almyra's story has always been shaped by its setting on the Paphos seafront, which makes clean beaches and clear water something we never take for granted. Through Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Destination, our team joined hotels, businesses and communities in clean-up activities around the island.
The initiative is organised by the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) under the Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free programme, with the support of the Cyprus Hotel Association (PASYXE) and under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

 Plastic-Free in Practice
True to its name, the programme asked volunteers to leave single-use items behind and bring reusable gloves, containers and cups instead. The results of previous editions show what collective effort can achieve: 2.3 tonnes of waste were removed in 2025 by more than 2,250 participants from 75 businesses and organisations, up from over 1.5 tonnes and 1,650 participants the year before.

For Almyra and Thanos Hotels & Resorts, this is part of a broader commitment to environmental protection and to the communities around our hotels, a reminder that thoughtful hospitality extends well beyond the property line.
